Inspired by the tea room history of Okinawa, Nana’s Green Tea Eias Toyosaki is a design that aims to provide a unique and timeless experience. Designed by Masahiro Yoshida, this project draws inspiration from the tea masters Sen no Rikyu, Furuta Oribe, and Kobori Enshu, each known for their distinct characteristics and contributions to the art of tea.
The designer sought to recreate the historical ambiance of the tea room by incorporating elements from the Juraku mansion, Rikyu's tea room, and Enshu's tea room. By arranging the Rikyu four tatami mats and the Enshu tea room, Nana’s Green Tea Eias Toyosaki allows visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history of the tea ceremony and experience a sense of timelessness.
To further enhance the timeless atmosphere, the designer utilized mortar to paint the floor, walls, and ceiling, creating a seamless and uniform space. The addition of white line drawings adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the design, elevating the overall aesthetic.
The project, which started in April 2019 and concluded in April 2020, faced various creative and technical challenges. However, through the collaborative efforts of Masahiro Yoshida, Tae Fukaumi, and Asuka Tamaru, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a design that captures the essence of the tea room history in Okinawa.
Nana’s Green Tea Eias Toyosaki has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skill, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
